The purpose of the Parent and Child swimming lessons is to expose and enhance early childhood development skills while teaching life-saving swimming skills. The two go hand in hand! Our developmental skills provide your child the opportunity to grow and learn at an age-appropriate pace. We provide classes for these skills to be either introduced or mastered. Our professional infant/toddler coaches will guide you and your child throughout the class as well as provide you with activities and information to integrate these fundamental, lifelong skills at home.
Babies need to participate in baby swimming not only to help keep them safe but to also to help shape their character, physical, social and mental development! Did you know that swimming as an infant will actually make your child a better learner? Movement is the key to learning for every child. A child cannot learn without motor stimulation. Movement and experience help the infant gather information. Sensory information from the environment comes from the child’s skin, nose, eyes, ears, taste buds and nerve receptors. Your child can move easily in the water with the aid of buoyancy and without the force of gravity, revealing the hidden power of movement and its implication in physical, emotional, social and cognitive development. Water Babies classes supply the child with brain-priming movement opportunities so he/she will be ready for reading, language, and reasoning skills. If a child’s experiences skip the sensory/motor levels, then gaps will appear in development, and learning will be more difficult. The general goals are to offer repeated exploration experiences encouraging the building of neural pathways which lead to a child’s higher level of brain development while laying the foundation for swimming skills.
The child has an adult (parent or other) in the water with him/her at all times. These Rowlett classes include an introduction to water safety and primary water skills, including back floats, submersions, and rollover breathing in a fun family environment.
All swimmers under the age of 3 years old are required to wear a tight-fitting reusable cloth swim diaper.
